Saudiah B talks Entrepreneurship, Beauty Hacks, and What it means to be a Fashion Girl
Being a fashion girl is all about style, personality, and an it factor. Someone who takes part in fashion trends, yet still has their own sense of style and personality. She is usually on the explore page or saved on a pinterest mood board. She’s cool, daring, and isn’t afraid to take risks.
If you’re one of Saudiah B’s 63k Instagram followers, you’ll know that she exudes Black luxury. From wearing the hottest brands and carrying the most sought after accessories, the Philadelphia native embodies all the qualities that make up a fashion girl in this day and age. We chatted with Saudiah about her life as an entrepreneur, her favorite things about fashion, and how she built her social media following.
Introduce yourself for those that may not know you: Where are you from and what do you do?
This is always a hard question for me because I always feel like I can introduce & describe myself in a thousand different ways, but to keep it short - I am Saudiah B a fashion, luxury, & beauty enthusiast from Philadelphia, PA & all of those components sparked my interest in starting a clothing brand which is what I do.
When did your love for fashion and beauty begin?
It may sound cliche but it was truly always in me. Since a kid I always loved putting on my mom’s makeup & playing dress up which is something that grew & stuck with me as I got older. So I would have to say it’s embedded in me naturally but also from my mom.
How has it been starting your own fashion brand? What is your favorite part about being a business owner?
It’s been really dope to see the support because there’s a difference between someone liking a picture & them liking your product enough to spend money with you. Business is not easy at all but that makes it all worth it & by far my favorite part!
You have such an impactful, and fashion forward presence on social media. How were you able to grow such a huge following?
I honestly don’t know, sometimes I’m amazed that so many people like me enough to follow, but if I had to say, I think it’s because they can tell that I’m just being myself & what you see on social media is probably the same thing in real life.
What is a fashion girl to you?
A fashion girl to me is someone who can pull off a fire look with 5 pieces in their wardrobe or 1000. Someone who gets dressed for themselves & just wears what they want. Having fun with it while also constantly evolving their style. Learning new brands and ways to pair your clothes.
Do you have any advice for other young women looking to build their own brand? What tips would you give them?
I would say just get prepared to learn there's highs & lows with owning your own business. Don’t be afraid to ask for help & just be patient with yourself. You're the only one responsible for your brand so make sure that you always put your best foot forward.
What is your thought process when dressing up? How would you describe your style?
My thought process is normally “is this gone f em up?” I think that if I had to describe my style it would be mixing the old with the new.
What are your favorite beauty and fashion products at the moment?
My favorite beauty product recently has been blush, everyone should use it & my favorite fashion product currently would have to be accessories because I’m really trying to incorporate more in my looks.
As a business owner, I know it can be hard trying to find balance with work and your personal life. How do you make time for self care?
Recently I have been overindulging in self care & downtime. I personally like when I am more structured & on work mode. Being self employed we sometimes forget those factors, so I’ve been trying to give myself dedicated work days & hours and then just use the rest for self care.
What does the future look like for your brand? Where do you see it headed?
I look at my brand as Saudiah B, Myself, and my business just being one of the many factors of it. So I would just like to keep expanding on my name and the things that I attach to it. I want to tap into different fields that align with my brand & myself. It’s headed to the moon!
